GOOD EATING HOUSES

This page has been compiled following a number of recommendations by entrants to the rally, and requests for eating establishments that were 'Biker Friendly' and supply good quality food at a reasonable price, it must be emphasised that the author cannot endorse all of these establishments and is totally dependant on the information furnished by the relevant entrant.

On the A40 east of Oxford in the lay-by at Forest Hill just before you join the eastbound M40 is a snack van run by a fanatical GoldWinger by the name of George but known to all as "Average" good clean grub and reasonable prices

Another good "dog van" is just of the A419 north of Swindon, south of Cirencester. take the the first turn off after the Cricklade turn and follow the old A419 north for about a mile and it is in a lay-by on the side of the road

Lay-by just east of Wantage on the A417 just before Lockinge is another good snack van, the only drawback on this one is what ever you ask for the propeiter always replys "whatever makes you happy" but the food is exellent

Ponderosa Cafe, at the summit of the Horseshoe Pass, A542 out of Llangollen

Cafe on A5 at Cerrigydrudion, between Llangollen and Betws-y-Coed, Next to a pub

Midway Truckstop and Raven Cafe, both on the A41 A49 junction at Prees Heath near (as in very near, not RBR near!) Whitchurch Shropshire.

Tearooms in Moneyash, Derbyshire, adjacent to the village green on B5055 just off A515.

Woodbine Cafe, Hope, Derbyshire, next to a small garage/petrol station in the village, A6187

West End Cafe, Broad St Llandovery, Carmarthenshire, opposite the cattle market in the town. A40.

The Kettle Sings, Jubilee Drive, Upper Colwall, near Great Malvern on the B4232 in the Malvern Hills, Worcester Herefordshire border.

Betty Hill Tea Rooms on A836 just east of the village, includes the Tourist Information in the same building. Home made cakes etc.

Jack Hill's Cafe and the Super Sausage get my vote - both on the A5, Jack Hill's is north of Towcester and the Super Sausage is near Yardley Gobion, who sounds like a character from Lord of the Rings. The cook in the Super Sausage comes out for a chat about my bike, being in the over-60 demographic who find it irresistableThe author of this will remain nameless... eh Sheila??

Tearooms in Cleobury Mortimer opposite the church. A4117
Note from Les Dale
The eaterie in Cleobury Mortimer has turned into an upmarket restaurant type thingy. The good news is, the Cafe at the top of Clee Hill (just outside the village) has re-opened, still on the same road as the other one, A4117 .

Coffee House in Ironbridge, Shropshire, off car park North end of the main street on left, river on your right.

Janet says WE MUST go here
The White Monk Tea Rooms in the old school at Blanchland
