Born in the Isle of Man Dad had a motor bike so I came home from the hospital in it. We moved to Yorkshire in about 1950 to live in a small village of Cowling, this village has the two towers called the salt and pepper pot, the salt pot was put up for Queen Victoria's 50 years as Queen, the pepper pot was put up by the next village called Sutton. At the age of 16 I got my 1st bike a 150 James after passing test I got a 350 BSA think it was a B31 then onto a Goldflash and camping gear. Then in 1963 I was asked by Craven D.M.C to help with the National Rally after helping I said I would like to have a go at it next year. In 1964 came my 1st trip to Wales and The Dragon Rally where I met Dennis this was held in Llanberis where the power station is now built. Well in May Dennis came to see me and asked if I was doing the National Rally. So this was my 1st one we started from Skipton and it finished at New Brighton Wallasey nr Liverpool. By 1967 I had a car and no bike, so I lent Dennis dad's ride to work Bantam for the next two years National Rally. In 1969 a friend said no bike for National Rally with a smile, I said, I have a old Bantam in the shed you can have for a £1-00 it needs a 1st gear, so home it went rebuilt in time, for the National Rally lights stopped working during the night, two torches and some lipstick got me through the night. Well the 1970 was the last National Rally for a lot of years. In 1993 the bike bug came back in the form of a trials bike, then in 1997 the wife said TT would be good, so the road bike came, and so back to the National Rally in 1997 then I find there is one in Wales and Scotland now, so all 3 in 1998 and 1999. |

At the finish of the 1999 Scottish I met Graham Flint who told me about the Round Britain Rally so that was the plan for 2000.
As I was ill on the weekend of the Scottish Rally, and was sat in a hospital bed when I should have been in Scotland when I also planned to do some RBR landmarks. |
